Warsaw Critical Mass is a parade of human-povered vehicles, every last friday of the month, all year round, 18:00 at Plac Zamkowy in Warsaw. It's uncommercial event, organised by volounteers wanting Warsaw to be cycling-friendly, with support from participants of the events.
WCM is also a lot of different bike events, happenings, bike-lobbing and other activities leading to our goals.
Our vision: Warsaw is a bike-friendly city, where you can cycle freely and safe, and leave bicycles secured.
Currently, Warsaw Critical Mass is the biggest, monthly bike event in Europe, because number of participants at summer is over 2000, and it's rising every month - in May 2005 it was 2360 persons. At the coldest winter months, number of participants is always more than 100, even during holiday season.
We will ride till everyday-cycling in Warsaw will be as pleasure and safe as taking part in Critical Mass.
Our goals:
- rising awarness of bike presence in the city, what is very often forgotten by city authorities at decision making process
- using asphalt as basic bike road surface;
- creation of safe and comfortable bicycle routes network and bicycle infrastructure (parkings, etc.);
- making main bicycle roads usable all year round;
- more bicycles on streets everyday.
